Restored Georgian garden reflective of the European Grand Tour

On arrival at the clients beautifully restored grand Georgian town property Peter eagerly awaited seeing the rear area of the house. The client called us to improve an ‘overgrown’ garden.

Reflecting the classic Georgian style, when all efforts went on the front of the house to show off to the world, whilst the rear hid the darker secrets of the budget.

In this case, it was merely the final stage of a complete restoration, but that presented the first problem.

Not only had any resemblance of a garden been obliterated by the building work on site, but what wasn’t hid below was untamed vegetation, revealing itself as abandoned furniture and spoil the renovation.
This commission certainly presented Peter one of his biggest challenges for a private client to date.

As he stumbled across the lost garden, Peter spotted highlights of hope in the form of abandoned statuary, as well as other features, reflecting a grander era, including a wonderful red-brick and clay garden wall, providing the owner with the promise of a secret garden.

With so many artefacts from an earlier time, Peter presented a style of parterre garden with a large central water feature, and strategic placing of these wonderful antiquities.

With a carefully selected range of evergreen specimens from our extensive range of Mediterranean plants, including classic topiary, and the skills of our landscaping team, the finished garden far exceeded the expectations and aspirations of our clients.
