Green Roofs

Green roof

Green roofs, or Living roofs, have been around for centuries. It’s the execution of them that has become more technical of late with more advanced sedum roof systems, allowing for thinner and lighter roof profiles.

Certainly there are many green building certifications that award points for the installation of a green roof and will also improve BREEAM buildings ratings.

The environmental benefits are undeniable. However, if you don't have an eco-objective you can benefit from the aesthetic and economical aspects of having an extended garden space.

The benefits of green roofs include:

  • Reducing water run-off and better stormwater mitigation
  • Building insulation leading to reduced energy bills
  • Aesthetically pleasing
  • Boost biodiversity by providing habitats for birds and insects
  • Improved air quality by filtering out harmful pollutants, dust, and allergens.
  • Cooling the urban environment
  • Low maintenance
  • Efficient noise barriers resulting in reduced noise pollution
  • Reducing risk of fire spread between buildings

Green Roofs can Save you Money

Green roofs, or sedum roofs, are used as an economic alternative to other options.

They have been shown to reduce heating and cooling costs, reduce stormwater runoff (and therefore flooding), and provide added commercial space, which in turn increases the value of a property.

Studies suggest that green roofs last longer than traditional roofs due to the protection of the waterproof membrane from ultraviolet sunlight.

The plants and substrate act as a natural barrier to weathering.

Mobiroof by Mobilane

Mobiroof is a simple, lightweight solution for a green roof where otherwise roof garden options are limited.

Creating an instantly fully-established green roof layer, Mobiroof plant cassettes are filled with substrate and 6-8 different types of sedum. Perfect for flat roofs and those with a gradient of less than 10 degrees (20%).

Instant greenery, easy to reposition, an added natural green layer may be applied to garages, dormers, extensions and garden buildings.

The Mobiroof cassettes are cultivated with several types of sedum (including album, spurium, acre and hispanicum) and Mesembryanthemum cooperi.

The cassette is filled with water-retaining stones.
