This native of south west Ireland and the Mediterranean is, unusually for an ericaceous plant, tolerant of lime. It is a small evergreen with brown, flaking bark, and its flowers and fruits are produced together in the autumn. A good choice for exposed and coastal sites, it is also good for urban planting.
